US
currency is widely accepted throughout the island.
Prices on menus, in hotels and for activities are
generally quoted in US dollars.
ATMs
on Anguilla accept international bank cards.
Currently
there are several ATMs located conveniently throughout
the Island: one each at National Bank of Anguilla
(NBA), Scotia Bank, Caribbean Commercial Bank,
Wallblake Airport, Island Gases Co. Ltd., Ashley & Sons
Grocery, Sydan's, Romcan Grocery and Palma Plaza.
Driving
is on the left. To rent a car on the island, a valid
driver's license from the resident country is needed
to obtain a local driver's license. Local driver's
licenses are available at car rental agencies and
cost $20. Rental cars are readily available; however
reservations for 'in season' car rentals and children's
car seats should be made in advance.
Electricity
is 110 AC voltage, the same as in the US.
Water
is potable; however, bottled water is available
at hotels and convenience stores.
Dress
is casual. It is generally advisable to bring a
light sweater or wrap for evenings.
There
are no nude beaches on Anguilla; topless sunbathing
is not permitted.
There
are no casinos.
There
is very little crime in Anguilla; however, travelers
should take normal precautions such as locking doors
and securing valuables.
Anguilla
is a dry island with an average annual rainfall
of 35 inches and average monthly temperature of
80ºF. The island is continually cooled by prevailing
trade winds, with little change of temperature in
the summer.
Water
temperatures are in the upper 70ºs to lower
80ºs. Optimum diving conditions are in the
summer months when visibility is at its highest
and there are little or no ground seas.
