New State of the Art Tennis Facility To Open in Anguilla
The Anguilla Tennis Academy DEVELOPING COMPLEX To FEATURE
Stadium Court with seating for 2,000

NEW YORK, NY, February 2006 --- The Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) is developing a major tennis facility in Blowing Point, Anguilla which, when completed, will be one of the finest in the Caribbean.

The state of the art complex will feature a 7,235 sq. ft. main building that will house male and female locker rooms, pro shop, a multimedia conference room, offices and a palm court. There will be six adjacent tennis courts (three on each side of the main building) built to the same specifications of the US Open facility in Flushing Meadows, NY. All tennis courts will be lit and gated. In addition, a stadium court will be constructed with seating for approximately 2,000 spectators and will also house a gym, concession stands, ticket office and player lounge area. Phase I, construction of the main building, has recently been completed. Phase II, construction of the courts, will begin in early March. The ATA goal is to finish the entire project by December of 2006.

The architectural renderings and detailed plans for the tennis complex were designed by internationally renowned New York architect Myron Goldfinger and assisted by Jeff Taylor and Associates.

The Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) is a non-profit tennis grassroots program. It is the brainchild of Anguillian born Mitchell Lake. His dream of bringing tennis to the island of Anguilla began while attending Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina on a tennis athletic scholarship. The primary goal of the ATA is to expose children to the joys, discipline and rigor of the life-long sport of tennis. The ATA is also committed to developing healthy minds and providing educational opportunities for children through the sport of tennis. Since its inception in 1996, over 1,000 participants have benefited from the program.

The program has inspired many tennis players, college coaches, television producers, and musical artists to share in this worthwhile endeavor and work towards making the project a reality, and has received substantial sponsorship from local business establishments and international friends of the program. Two of its staunch supporters are Mr. Robert Johnson, Founder of BET and Mr. Edgar Bronfman Jr., chairman of Warner Music Group.

The facility will be open to everyone - the children of Anguilla for whom it is being built; the general public and the island’s visitors alike. Tournaments will be held monthly ranging from local junior and adult categories, ITF sanctioned junior events, professional, pro-am, celebrity and fundraising tournaments.
