| SMOKEY'S RESTAURANT ADDS TO ANGUILLA'S DINING EXPERIENCES | |
The tiny Caribbean island of Anguilla is gaining a world-wide reputation for yet another area essential to the hospitality industry - dining. The island's chefs, both international and local artists, have won many of the region's culinary competitions; the restaurants have received high praise from a number of Epicurean publications and the restaurant proprietors continue to strive for perfection. Alan and Lisa Gumbs, owners of KoalKeel and Restaurant Ici, two of the island's most successful restaurants, have opened a third restaurant this season, Smokey*s.
Located on beautiful Cove Bay on the island's western end, Smokey*s provides a romantic beachside atmosphere with a blend of cosmopolitan flair and traditional Anguillian fare. Chef Leonard "Smoke" Sharplis, who is also executive Chef at KoalKeel, prepares traditional dishes such as Curried Goat, Gilled Snapper with fresh lemon and, of course, Anguillian Lobster. For starters Bullfoot Soup and Crayfish Wonton are among the choices and diners can finish with desserts such as Mango Riptide Keylime Pie or CheseQuake. Diners enjoy the easy day atmosphere. A volleyball net is set up on the beach and the interior of Smokey*s is decorated with colorful hammocks that swing from the ceiling. At night tiki torches, candles, china, stemware and linen tablecloths change this beachside bistro into a romantic nook for diners. Smokey*s is open daily for lunch from 11:30AM - 3PM and for dinner from 6PM - 10PM with live music on Sunday's in the afternoon. Prices range from $8 - $14 for appetizers and $9 - $16 for entrees. Major credit cards are accepted. |
